About The Artwork:

This black and white illustration titled "Awake" offers a visually striking combination of symbolic elements, each rich in meaning. The intersecting infinity signs—one horizontal, one vertical—serve as the backbone of the composition. In various cultures, infinity represents eternity, balance, and the cyclical nature of existence. When two infinity signs are linked, it can symbolize the interconnectedness of different aspects of life, such as time and space, the material and spiritual realms, or the unbreakable bond between two individuals.

At the top of the vertical infinity sign, two unicorns face outward. The unicorn, a mythological creature, is often seen as a symbol of purity, magic, and rarity. In medieval legends, unicorns were believed to have the power to cleanse poison and could only be tamed by a virgin, representing innocence and unattainable perfection. Their presence in "Awake" suggests a pursuit of the rare, the magical, and the unattainable.

Drops are scattered throughout the illustration, containing delicate roses. Water drops are often symbols of life, renewal, and emotional release. In many spiritual traditions, they represent tears, both of joy and sorrow, highlighting the transient nature of emotions. Drops also carry the symbolism of purification and new beginnings, making them perfect vessels for containing the intricate roses within them.

Roses themselves are steeped in cultural significance. Universally, roses are a symbol of love and beauty, yet they also carry dual meanings, representing both passion and pain, growth and decay. A rose in bloom can symbolize the peak of beauty or love, while the thorns can indicate the trials that come with such experiences. In mythology, roses are associated with deities of love, such as Aphrodite and Venus, further cementing their connection to deep emotions and relationships.

The composition, when taken as a whole, offers a deeply surreal interpretation of eternal connection. The intersecting infinities suggest two lives that are intertwined, destined never to part. The unicorns, rare and magical, could represent the uniqueness of a soulmate or a perfect partner. The drops containing roses may symbolize the emotional depth, beauty, and challenges of such a connection, where love and eternity exist together in harmony. This surreal black and white art piece, therefore, speaks to the idea of finding something rare and perfect, a love or bond that, once discovered, will last forever.
